Testing the Relationship between Two Quantitative Variables
Day 146 - Lesson 10.5
Learning Targets
-
State hypotheses for a test about the relationship between two quantitative variables.
-
Check conditions for a test about the relationship between two quantitative variables.
-
Calculate the test statistic and P-value for a test about the relationship between two quantitative variables given summary statistics.
Activity: Does seat location matter? Part 1.

Answer Key:
We will spend two days on this lesson since the concept is a bit more complex than the other significance tests. Thinking about testing a slope is a bit of a jump for students. In order to make this concept less abstract, we are going to do some hands on simulation. This is a little time consuming so we will do all of this on day 1 and on day 2 we will start forming the significance test.
Teaching Tip:
Students have done simulations similar to this before. This lesson reminds me a bit of the first simulation dotplot we made in chapter 3 and also of the free throw simulations in chapter 8.
