Deciding on the strength of a scatterplot. They used the word strong too loosely.by a constant would not change the correlation.

The concept that subtracting each value by a constant would not change the correlation.
Remedies…

Encourage students to use "-ly" words for strength to soften them. However, correlations close to 0.5 should be described as moderate and not fairly strong.

Reiterate that correlation describes the points in relationship to each other. If you shift the entire distribution the points don't move relative to each other.
